SUCCESS!!!

A huge thank you to all of the participants in our Recycle
Your Electronics Event held on Sat March 31. We had over 500 cars drive through
loaded with TVs, computers, stereos, VCRs etc. We carried hundreds of items
through the cold of the morning and then thank goodness the sun in the
afternoon filling four 40' walk in bins and needing an emergency delivery of
two more 30' bins before the day was done. With 6 huge bins filled to the top
we finally stopped at 2pm exhausted but very happy.
Our helpers ranged from 6 yrs old to 50plus congregational members including
teens from our congregation and friends from a local hockey team who pitched
in. Thank you so much to our sluggers for your strong muscles with the lifting
and piling we could not have done it without you. Many thanks to the guys
directing traffic with your logistics expertise. Thank you to our 3 cheerleaders
who pulled cars in off Walkers Line. Thanks to the people who brought us
cookies, muffins, sandwiches, pop and juice to keep us going. Thank you to all
of you who put signs on your lawn, delivered and put up our flyers, emailed the
ads to your friends and told your co-workers. The aggressive advertising worked.
Thank you to the Burlington Post, SNAP magazine for news coverage and the Mayor
who made a special stop to cheer us on. Finally thank you to the Ontario
Electronic Stewardship Team for providing us with this opportunity and their
support of this project and those of you who took the time to drop off your own
old electronics and be eco-friendly.
We successfully diverted tons of waste from the local landfill site and made
many households in Burlington very happy to help with the Earth Friendly
Initiative. It is a wonderful kick off to Earth day programs which will be
happening in our city over the next few weeks.
This is a fundraising initiative as well and we will
keep you posted as to how much we have raised. The monies will be well spent to
run our church and give back to the community through our programs, outreach and
good works within our Burlington Community.
Well done Tansley!!!!!!
Sincerely, Jodi Harrison, Dave Peacock, Janice Hatt and Evan McDade.
